POORTHINGS.
Before the Academy Awards aired. I decided to watch all the movies that were nominated. This year I can honestly say I was not disappointed. Produced by Yorgos Lanthinos, an amazing cast: Emma Stone, Mark Rufullo, William Dafoe, Margaret Qualley and Ramy Youssef. Who in the film, all give excellent performances. Not to mention the costume and set design. The story starts off with a deformed scientist ( Dafoe) who plays a Frankenstein style experiment on a pregnant woman he finds in a lake. And voilà! Bella(Stone) is alive. The brain of a baby, Bella needs to learn how to become a decent human being. So God (Dafoe) as she calls him, hires a teacher, Max McCandless (Youssef). But Bella has been isolated since she can remember and wants to discover the world. She is innocent but her honesty and her ways are very direct. A very particular girl.
A man(Rufullo) looking to take Bella on adventures, convinces her, as she easily was, to go with him.
And there starts Bella's adventures. I won't say more to not give to much of the story away but this movie made me laugh 😂 and cry 😭. You dive deep into Bella's character even if at times she seems difficult, brutal and inconprehensif. You learn to love her and accept her flaws with much empathy.
I really enjoyed the fact that this film was very different than anything I ever saw. The producers took chances and brought us into a new an imaginative world with a little bit of magic. Almost like the great Tim Burton does.
The Oscars won by the cast and crew are very deserving!!!!
It might not be for everyone. It is rated R and there is some gore and lots of sexuality.
But if your into exploring new kinds of movies and like me, into weird stuff, you probably will enjoy it like I did.
I give it a 8/10

OPPENHEIMER...
I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch a movie about the father of the atomic bomb. But my curiosity got the best of me. What was all the hype that made people go the the theaters.
Well,I get it now.
It took some emotional courage to watch this almost 3 hour movie. One hour into it I was totally lost and dizzy. It takes you to a future,a present and a past going back and forth. Not to mention the many different characters and dialogues. And I have no knowledge of scientific terms. I was really bad at math in school.
But I pulled threw it and suddenly I started to get really interested.
Christopher Nolan did one heck of a job. He casted the right and brilliant actors to play his characters. The dialogues are just incredible. The special effects and the musical score takes you to the exact place and uneasy feelings Nolan wants you to go to.
This movie is not only a drama but a thriller.
I get it. I get why they won in almost every category in every award show.
I definitely recommend you watch the movie a second time around if you can handle it. But it is worth the time to see it once. As I call a must see.
I give it a 7/10
